I was an executive at Waymo for 5 years (2019 through March 2024) reporting to the CEO and leading various areas including autonomous trucking, Perception / ML Infrastructure, Reliability, and Freeway Driving. Waymo is the leader in this space, commercializing a robo-taxi service across 4 cities (with 3 more announced) with over 55M driverless miles and 250K weekly paid customer rides. I was a participant in all major aspects of technical and business strategy and long-term planning.
I understand the AV trucking space very deeply (and autonomy challenges in general) and am very familiar with Aurora (one of the co-founders was my PhD advisor and Chris, the CEO, was on my committee). I'm also familiar with the challenges Aurora is going through and will have to navigate on the way to broader commercialization.
